The reality is not that we are not competent, that we don't have the skillset or that we lack experience. Far from it. Data shows that women will most likely apply for a promotion or look to advance in their career only once they meet ALL or most of the criterias needed for their next move (Gouv.Canada). 📃

And not only that, Randstad highlights that only 3 out of 10 women are motivated to advance in their careers. Another perception to this question is, Are only 3 out of 10 women motivated to advance in their career OR, is it that only 30% of women are confident and comfortable to advocate for themselves in order to advance in their career?

So this is where understanding the power of our own perception and mind and also the disempowerment that can be caused by our OWN perception and mind.

Self-advocacy begins with the notion of self. To recognize that our own perception shapes our reality and that in sum we are responsible for creating our reality.
Scientists suggests thats 20% of what makes up for our reality comes from the outside world, and the remaining 80% is influenced by our own internal thoughts, beliefs, and perceptions. This is a big split, and also a big opportunity for us to take control of our narrative. 💯

The fear of advocating for oneself often stems from society's expectations of us, cultural norms, and personal doubts. Breaking through this barrier requires a shift in mindset and the cultivation of our own self-confidence.

✨ Start by acknowledging your accomplishments and recognizing your own worth. Document AND celebrate your achievements, skills, and the positive impact you've had.
✨Challenge the notion that you need to fulfill every criteria on a "the list" before seeking advancement. Embrace the idea that growth often involves stepping into the unknown, taking on challenges that stretch your abilities, and learning along the way. It's okay to not have all the answers; what matters is your willingness to learn and adapt.
✨ Look for mentors, their guidance and insights can help you in building your confidence and creating a roadmap for your professional vision.

Self-advocacy is not just about advancing in your career; it's taking the steps to embracing your own power and contributing to a culture where every voice is heard and valued. By challenging self-imposed limitations and fostering a positive mindset, you not only advocate for yourself but also inspire others to do the same. ❤️
